AVITO® aqua Reed Bed Plants

The Functionality

In the first cleaning stage, waste water is collected in a tight septic tank and precleaned by mechanical purification.

The mechanically precleaned water (grey-water) is flushed through the partition spider onto the reed bed several times a day. This way, the waste water is evenly spread over a large surface. Then the water seeps through the reed bed vertically.

The soil filter through which the water flows vertically is a basin sealed off from the underground, filled with washed sand and gravel and planted with special reeds. The biological purification takes place in the so called "biological lawn" within the porosities of the reed bed.

Certain microbes in the reed bed are responsible for the bacteriological purification. They decompose the organic pollutants in the grey-water by using them as nutrients. To ensure that cleaning-cycle, there is no need to inject oxygen. Oxygen is produced in a natural way using the plants and by the intermittent flushing of the filter bed.
